All payment processing products and services don't work for all businesses. You want to provide your customers with the flexibility of paying in their preferred method, while also choosing the options that work best for your individual business.
Sometimes your customers find it easier to pay by check. If you accept checks at your business, we offer a complete check authorization and conversion program that can streamline your business operations.
Many components make up the process of accepting a paper check. At CardConnect of Kansas, we want to reduce the administrative and labor expenses involved when your business processes paper checks. That's why we encourage businesses that accept paper checks at point-of-sale to convert to electronic check conversion. This process will not only reduce your operational costs, it will also increase your ability to earn revenue on check returns.
From the time the customer pays with a manual check to the time you get paid, we offer complete solutions to streamline the process along the way.
As more paper processing goes digital today, so too does check processing. Many businesses no longer accept paper checks. Processing checks electronically through electronic check conversion reduces labor costs, losses, float time and bank fees. It's just good for business!
Advantages of electronic check conversion
Some merchants find that ACH (Automatic Clearing House) processing works better for their businesses than credit cards. This payment method gives customers an additional payment option, and provides you with another means to complete the sale.
ACH processing works similarly to a paper check. This method allows customers to purchase goods or services via a company's website, billing system or call center with their personal or business checking account. Like paper checks, these payments must clear (and may bounce), but some merchants prefer to accept ACH payments as a convenience for their customers. Plus, ACH processing can be more affordable than credit card processing.
At CardConnect, we're committed to providing you with the security your business needs to keep from accepting fraudulent checks. Our check verification solutions crosscheck submitted information, like bank account structures, against a national database.
How it works
ACH processing starts through a web-based virtual terminal that checks the customer's checking account and routing number. CardConnect verifies the customer's information against a national database, and the ACH is processed. Payments are still processed via a checking account (not a credit card account), and are automatically deducted. The virtual terminal also allows customers to set up a recurring ACH payment each month.
When you use our check processing services at CardConnect of Kansas, you'll have access to a national database that can help protect your business from the losses of returned checks.
This database contains more than 180 million positive records and 28 million negative records, essentially accounting for a knowledge of about 95 percent of the checks written in retail nation-wide. With access to these records, you can identify customers who have recently conducted an unusual level of check writing, or those with relatively new accounts, before you accept a check.
Personalized service that lets you make the decisions
Unlike other check authentication databases, this database provides you with objective information before declining a check. You know your customers better than a computer programmer. That's why this database gives you a warning based on established rules, and then allows you, the store manager, to decide whether or not to accept the check. That way your customers' checks won't be needlessly declined.
Provided by 280 collection agencies, with more than 180,000 contributing merchant locations, including some of the largest retailers in the nation, this database is one of the most comprehensive and trusted check verification databases available.
Payroll verification option
As an added convenience for customers, CardConnect of Kansas also offers payroll verification. Like our standard check verification systems, payroll checks are also verified against a national database. You'll receive declines and warnings based on set standards.
You want your customers, especially your regular customers, to feel appreciated. Requiring long-time customers to pull out their identification every time they visit your business can make them feel less welcome.
CardConnect of Kansas offers a solution to help you maintain positive relationships with customers. Through one time ID tender, we can enable every customer who writes a check to automatically be accepted (unless that customer has negative data in the system).
How it works
For a short period (typically 30 days) we will gather history on customers who write checks at your business. Then, at the end of the set period, we will implement a change to only ask for an ID on any customer who we have not seen in the past 30 days.
We can also prompt for the ID on any check in which we do not have an ID attached in the national database we use. This means that the prompt for the ID will happen only once. After we key in the ID and cross-reference the ID to any other outstanding checks on that ID, that customer will be approved. Then, the next time we process that customer's check, we will already have the ID on file. Re-prompts on an ID will occur a year after the ID was originally presented to refresh the data.
